The Reading Passport: Books set in Arkansas

Welcome to Arkansas, pronounced Ar-kan-saw. I am making a point about the correct pronunciation of the State's name since it is illegal to mispronounce Arkansas. It is also illegal for the Arkansas River to rise above the Main Street Bridge in Little Rock, although I am having a hard time figuring out how is this law being enforced. Arkansas is also home to the only active diamond mine in the United States, where you can even mine for your own diamonds. The list below has some precious gems as well, and they would not require any mining experience to enjoy them.
