Colorado: where the capital (Denver) sits one mile high, and where the highest paved road (Mount Evans Scenic Byway), the highest city (Leadville), and highest suspension bridge (Royal Gorge Bridge) in the U.S. can be found. In this land of "highest" you could also drive through the highest tunnel in the country, so we get it, Colorado has altitude. Hence, a list of highly-prized books set in the Centennial State.
